Rules and Regulations
Elevating Veterinary Excellence: VNASA, Pioneering the Future of Veterinary Nursing in South Africa.
The South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) is the professional regulatory body governing the veterinary and para-veterinary professions and we work under Act No. 19 of 1982 (as amended).
It is essential to pay the annual maintenance fee to the Council in order to practice as a veterinary nurse. Should you decide to stop nursing for a few years, it is far easier and cheaper, in the long run, to continue paying the fees than having to reregister and possibly write the SAVC examination.
If you work as a veterinary nurse but do not pay the annual maintenance fees you are working illegally.
