Where To Study
Elevating Veterinary Excellence: VNASA, Pioneering the Future of Veterinary Nursing in South Africa.
The University of Pretoria offers a comprehensive Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing (BVetNurs) program, which is a full-time three-year degree. The practical component of the program takes place at the esteemed Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital.
It is important to note that the BVetNurs degree is currently the only course in South Africa recognized by the South African Veterinary Council as meeting the requirements for qualification as a veterinary nurse. While there are various online courses available, these do not currently hold recognition from the South African Veterinary Council.
It is crucial to consider two important points regarding the BVetNurs degree: Firstly, this degree cannot serve as a direct pathway to pursue the BVSC (Veterinary) course. The sole post-schooling route to enter the BVSC program is through a BSc (Bachelor of Science) degree. Secondly, applicants who select BVetNurs as their first choice will be given preference over those who indicate it as their second choice.
